'SNL' Shocker: Larry David and Bernie Sanders Are Related

The "Curb Your Enthusiasm" star, who famously played Sanders on "Saturday Night Live" during the 2016 election, was asked about his bloodline during an HBO panel at a Television Critics Association event on Wednesday. The revelation came courtesy of PBS' "Finding Your Roots," which a reporter saw and asked David about.

"They told me not to say anything about it. You just spilled the beans,” David said to the reporter.

When asked if the PBS series revealed any more surprises about his lineage, David joked, “I've got Nazis in my family."

“There are slave-holders, though," he added, which prompted David's "Curb" co-star J.B. Smoove to interject, "I figured that."

David isn't entirely sure how exactly he's related to Sanders, though. "Some distant cousin, I don't know," he said.

David was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of Sanders "SNL," and even admitted he wondered if he was related to Sanders, somehow.

"I was very happy about that. I thought there must have been some connection," the comedian said.

He also explained how he landed the big role, which was offered to him after the first Democratic debate between Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

"During the first debate between Bernie and Hillary, Lorne Michaels got emails and calls during the debate, saying that I should be doing Bernie Sanders," David said. "And every time I watched Bernie Sanders, I would repeat everything that he said, because I know that I can talk like that, so I started talking to Ari, the agent, I started talking to him like Bernie."

"Curb Your Enthusiasm" returns to HBO on October 1.
